Greg is a Managing Director of BML and Benning Associates LLC, and is one of the most experienced middle market M&A bankers in the US, with over 300 completed merger, acquisition, licensing and financing transactions totaling over $15B in aggregate consideration. He has specialized in emerging growth companies for the past twenty years, and in the life sciences exclusively for the last ten. In addition to his responsibilities at BA/BML, he is head of investment banking at Back Bay Life Science Advisors LLC, a life sciences-focused strategic and financial advisory firm that has completed more than 600 client assignments in the past 10 years (www.bblsa.com).
Prior to founding BA, Mr. Benning was group head of M&A for the emerging growth investment bank, Adams Harkness & Hill, and a managing director at the regional investment bank, Tucker Anthony Incorporated. Greg coordinates BML’s fairness opinion and special committee services. Mr. Benning is an acknowledged expert on M&A transaction markets, deal structures and acquisition finance, and has presented, spoken and written for organizations including ACG Boston, Angel Capital Association, Babson College, Boston University, Corporate Board Member, Ernst & Young, LSX, MassBIO, NALS, Nantucket Conference, National Association of Corporate Directors and YCombinator. He has also regularly participated in the professional development programs of several regional and national law firms, covering topics including imbedded derivatives in M&A deal structures, earn outs and contingent payment structures, and fairness opinion best practices. Mr. Benning has an M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, and a B.A. in Public Policy Analysis from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was Captain of the Heavyweight Crew. With more than 25 years at the Founder and Managing Director level, Steve’s senior level experience providing mergers and acquisitions advice is extensive. He has managed and executed over 150 M&A transactions.
The large majority of Steve’s transactional practice involves the sale of privately-owned clients and divestitures for large publicly listed multinational companies. Steve has managed and successfully closed transactions for an extensive list of well-known clients including divestiture/sale mandates for publicly-listed companies such as General Electric, The Stanley Works, PerkinElmer, Standex International, Xtra-Vision plc, and AET. He has sold small and large companies across North America, Europe, and Asia. Companies sold span from highly profitable businesses to companies being operated in Chapter 11. Steve’s experience spans more than 50 different industries. Steve received his MBA from the Franklin W. Olson Graduate School of Business at Babson College where he was the Graduate School student body President, and earned his BA from Boston College. Russ is Founder & Managing Director of North River Capital Advisors. Russ has over 20 years of experience in industry-focused investment banking and financial advisory, managing and executing over 150 M&A, capital-raising and other advisory assignments. He founded and directed the clean technology / sustainability practices at two major Wall Street firms, ran an investment banking division, founded and ran a sustainable consumer products practice and has experience with a broad range of technology companies.
Prior to forming North River Capital, Russ founded and directed the Clean Technology Group at KeyBanc Capital Markets, the investment banking division of KeyCorp, a commercial bank with $90 billion in assets. In this capacity, he developed a firm-wide practice in a new industry sector, responsible for a variety of transactions including public and private debt and equity, syndicated loans, M&A and other financial advisory services. Before Key, Russ spent 17 years at Adams Harkness (subsequently Canaccord Adams and then Canaccord Genuity), a leading investment banking and brokerage firm with a presence throughout North America and Europe. At Adams, Russ founded and headed the firm’s Sustainability / Clean Technology practice which became the leading national player in this space under his direction. He also was head of the Investment Banking Division for five years and established the firm's sustainable consumer practice, Healthy Living. Before Adams, he spent several years working with environmental service companies. Russ has been a Board member of the New England Clean Energy Council since its formation in 2006 and has also served on the Boards of the CleanTech Capital Group and the South Shore Natural Science Center. Russ received his MBA from Columbia Business School and BA from Yale University. He is a Series 24 Registered Securities Principal with BML Securities LLC. Russ is married with two children, an avid backcountry skier, sailor and fly fisherman. |
Tom Golding brings more than 20 years of experience in the financial industry with an expertise in distribution business advisory as a partner at Riparian Partners, LLC in Providence, RI. Additionally, Tom is the director of several privately held corporations.
Prior to joining Riparian, Tom served as President of the Eagle Electric Supply Division of Sonepar Distribution US, Inc. In 1996, he was elected President and COO of the company after ten years with Eagle Electric. Previously, Tom also served as Assistant Vice President at Shawmut Bank, N.A. in Boston, MA, where his clients included Fortune 500 companies as a commercial lender in Shawmut's National Division. His banking career began at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co. in New York, where he had lending responsibilities to middle market companies in the Midwest. He is a Series 63 and 79 Registered Securities Representative with BML Securities LLC. Tom received a B.A. in Economics from Williams College in 1982. |
Brendan VanDeventer

Brendan VanDeventer is the founder and a managing partner at Riparian Partners, LLC. in Providence, Rhode Island, where he established the mergers and acquisitions advisory firm in 1993. Brendan has concentrated his efforts in the investment-banking field with mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and the private placement of both debt and equity for privately held companies. Throughout his career, he has managed approximately 100 principal engagement responsibilities with greater than $1 billion in transaction value.
Before founding Riparian Partners, Brendan served as a Principal at a local regional investment banking firm, DWQ Associates. Previously, he was a Senior Lender in the Commercial Banking Group of Bank of Boston/Rhode Island Hospital Trust National Bank. While at Bank of Boston, he specialized in structured financing, leveraged buyouts, ESOP's and tax-exempt financing. From 1984-1986, Brendan helped to provide lease financing to both government and private sector organizations across the nation in the Specialized Lending Department at Old Stone Bank. He is an active board member of several privately held companies and has served on the board of several dozen charitable and civic organizations.
